Writing 3 : IDENTIFYING TEXT ( Narrative, Descriptive, Expository)


  • Definition of Narrative 
Narrative text is a text that tells about something that not really happen, but only in the reef by the author (Writer). Narrative text also intend to educate, inform, convey a reflection on the experience of the author, and alsot is to develop the reader's imagination. Narrative text is generally, but there are also factual narrative text, which tells the true incidence.

  • Generic Structure of Narrative 
A narrative text consists of the following structures :
1. Orientation 
2. Complication
3. Resolution
4. Re-Orientation / Coda 

  • Language Forms of Narrative 
1. Using processes verbs : tell, says. narrates.
2. Using temporal conjunction : Chronological order.
3. Using simple past tense.

  • The Purpose of  Narrative
To amuse or to entertain the readers wuth the story.

EXAMPLE OF THE TEXT :
The story Rabbit and Bear
Once upon a time, there lived a bear and a rabbit. The rabbit was a good shot. On the contrary, the bear was always clumsy and could not use the arrow to shoot
.
One day, the bear called over the rabbit and asked the rabbit to take his bow and arrows. Because he was afraid to arouse the bear’s anger, he did not refuse the challenge. He went with the bear and shot buffaloes. He shot and killed so many that there were lots of meats left after.
However the bear did not make the rabbit get any of the meat. Even he could not taste it. The poor rabbit went home hungrily after a day of hard work.
Fortunately, the youngest child of the bear was very kind to the rabbit. His mother bear always gave him an extra large piece of meat but he did not eat it all. He took some outside with him and pretended to play ball with the meat. He kicked the ball of meat toward the rabbit’s house. The meat flew into the rabbit’s house. In this way, the hungry rabbit got his meal.



  • Definition of Descriptive 
Descriptive text is a text that explain depicts or describes an object or a place in detail and clearly. such as explaining the shape, color, size and others.

  • Generic Structure of Descriptive
- Identification : contains the identification of matters / a person will be described.
- Description : contains the explanation / description of it / someone with a few character.
If you are to write a paragraph, it has to have three main component in the structure:
  1. Topic Sentence
  2. Supporting Sentences
  3. Concluding Sentences
  4. Logical Development
  • The Purpose of Descriptive
The puprpose is to describe poeple, place, certain objects, etc.

EXAMPLE OF THE TEXT :
MY BROTHER

My brother is a handsome boy. He taller than me, and he has straight and black hair. His eyes color is brown and his skin color light brown, and he has a friendly smile.
He is a very kind person. He likes to help people. He is a good child for my parents, and a good brother for me. He is a dilligent student.



  • Definition of Expository
A paragraph that explain, decsribe, present information, or pesuade something. It includes: information, explanation, fact, and illustration
  • Generic structure of Expository
The paragraph context it has to have three component of paragraph :
  1. Topic Sentences
  2. Supporting Sentences
  3. Concluding Sentences
  • Language Forms
Language forms of Expository :
  1. Using process verbs: begin, start, continue, become, remain, develop, etc.
  2. Using indefinite transitions.
  3. Using question word mark, such as how and and
  4.  Usig charts, graphics, and other visual aids.
  5.  Using present tenses either vebal or nominal.
