WRITING 3 - TASK FOR 5th MEETING

 

      1. Description of narrative writing and How to differ from other writing genres.

Narrative text is basically text that tells about something that did not really happen, but only in the reef by the author (Writer). narrative text aims to entertain, to gain and maintain the attention of the reader / listener a story. Narrative text also aims to educate, inform, convey a reflection on the experience of the author, and are no less important is to develop the imagination of the reader / listener. Imaginary narrative text generally, but there are also factual narrative text, which tells the true incidence.

And How to differ from other writing genres, There are several types of narrative text that is often encountered in daily life, for example, fairy tales, legends, mysteries, horror stories, novels, and short stories. Narrative text has several characteristic features. Of the characteristic features we can differentiate narrative text with other genres. And here is some of the characteristic features of narrative text:
Narrative text consists of three main parts, (1) Orientation is the part where the author depicts the world of the story, this section introduced where and when events occur and leaders .
(2) Complication is the part where the main character faces hurdles in achieving goals, the part where the conflict began to occur .
 (3) Resolution is part of the problem faced by the main character solved. This section has two trends, namely ending the story with happiness (happy ending) and or end a story with sadness (sad ending), but there is also a narrative text that allow the reader / listener to guess the end of the story.

From the point of view of language features, narrative text is characterized as follows:

1. Participants are specific and often individually

2. Lot of action verbs (material processes), and there is also the use of verbal and mental processes.

3. Usually use the Past tense.

4. Use lingking Many Words related to time.

5 Often incorporate dialogue and tense will probably change.

6 Descriptive language used for creating images in the minds of readers.

7 can be written in the first person (1), or third (he, she, they).

Linguistic Feature Narrative Text :

In Narrative Text, there are some characteristics are as follows:
• Using the Action Verb in the Past Tense form. For example: climbed, Turned, Brought, etc..
• Using specific nouns as a personal pronoun, certain animals and objects in the story. For example: the king, the queen, and so on.
• Using adjectives which form the noun phrase. For example: long black hair, two red apples, etc..
• Using connectives and Conjunctions Time to sort events. For example: then, before, after, soon, etc..
• Using Adverbs and adverbial Phrase to indicate the location of the incident or event. For example: here, in the mountain, happily ever after, and so on.

2. The steps how to make a narrative writing and example for every step.

 

Steps to Narrative Writing :

1. Decide on a topic sentence (what is the story you want to tell?) topic sentence usually in the first sentence in a paragraph and it will introduces idea of the paragraph. Remember, a narrative is a story with characters, setting, problem, and solution. Be sure to choose a story that has all the parts of a good narrative.

e.g :             One day I got a short message service from the leader of ASES  brother Heri Purnomo. (topic sentence) For your information ASES is organization for Muhammadiyah university student in English education study program . In the short message service, brother Heri told that all members of ASES  should gathered after class end to attend the meeting. After class end , I and my friends gathered in room to attend the meeting. It turns out that in this meeting we discussed about following some contest at one of the universities in Lampung and we will represent Muhammadiyah university . There are several branches of the contest that followed, there are debate , scrabble , speech , and wall magazine . After that we decided who are the student will followed the contest. And I never thought I had chosen to follow wall magazine contest. In this contest needed 1 gruop which consists of 3 people, Me, Indah Maharani my classmate , and Sister Annisa from 7th semester . After decided who will follow the contest , the meeting finally ended and will process with the preparation in the next day.

2.  Because narrative text is text that tell something happen in the past, ofcourse we must use past tense in write narrative text. And in every paragraph we should know about topic sentence and controling idea.

e.g :             Because the time was getting close, the next day  I was always practicing and preparing everything to be better prepared. (topic sentence) Indah, sisters Annisa and I began making wall magazine concept to which my group and I will brought at the contest. When I prepared everything, bro syarief also helped us to do everything that we needed.

Controling Idea : The competition getting close. The author prepare all of the equipment.

3.   If we have make a topic sentences,controling idea,a nd choose the tenses, finally we can apply in the paragraph writing. Than we write narrative text based on the good generic  structure that we have learn.

COMPLICATION	Because the time was getting close, the next day  I was always practicing and preparing everything to be better prepared. Indah, sisters Annisa and I began making wall magazine concept to which my group and I will brought at the contest. When I prepared everything, bro syarief also helped us to do everything that we needed. And finally the contest day came. At 7a.m I and my friends were gathered in our beloved campus to went to where the race begins together. I and my friends went there by UM’s mini bus. Around one and a half hours we arrived to Bunda Delima Nursing Academy, Bandar Lampung. When arrived there I got a little guidance. After that I and my group entered the contest room. For wall magazine competition the participants were given about 2 hours to work to complete the wall magazine. And the contest began, my group and I do it carefully for maximum results as we want. Because my group and I have a good cooperation and compact we could finish well and on time. After the time was over, the judge call each group to present the wall magazine. With the theme of “safe our environment” we could present it well. and the announcement of the winner will be announced in the next day.
RESOLUTION	The next day I went there again to find out if my friends and I got a winner or not. And this was the best surprise I ever got besides a birthday surprise hehehe .. My friends and I did not think that the wall magazine team get 3rd winner. It was the first achievement I got while studying at university of Muhammadiyah. And the more pleasure this was the first trophy that my friends and I gave to our study program. But unfortunately my friends and I are still a little bit disappointed because  have not got a winner in other branches of the contest. But my friends and I are still grateful that could get in the championship contest in wall  magazine. And finally I brought home our trophy. I was very happy and proud because I was able to achieve this achievement. I am very thankful to God and grateful to my friends who have helped our group in that contest.

My Achievement.

Hay guys! I would ask you, what is the achievement that you have got in your life? Yes I thought every people have some achievement in their life. In this beautiful occasion I would tell you about my achievement. It happened a few months ago. And this made me very happy and proud.

4. Explain why your sentence is called as the topic sentence?

 

SENTENCE	REASON
In this beautiful occasion I would tell you about my achievement. It happened a few months ago.	Main idea of the first paragraph will tell about the achievement of the author.
One day I got a short message service from the leader of ASES  brother Heri Purnomo.	That sentence tell about the begining of the author who choosen to follow the competition.
Because the time was getting close, the next day  I was always practicing and preparing everything to be better prepared.	That sentence is the main idea of third paragraph, it tells about the author’s preparation for the competition.
And finally the contest day came. At 7a.m I and my friends were gathered in our beloved campus to went to where the race begins together.	The sentence called as topic sentence because it has a complete sentence. Controlling idea : the competition day came, so we gather in our beloved campus to go there. Topic : And finally the contest day came
The next day I went there again to find out if my friends and I got a winner or not.	The sentence beside is the main idea of the fifth paragraph, it tells about the announcement of the winner.
And finally I brought home our trophy.	And sentence beside is the last paragraph, it tells about the winner of the competition.
